Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi did not sign the notice of no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that the Congress submitted the notice under Rule 94C of rules and procedures at 1.14 pm on Tuesday. Following this, Om Birla directed the Lok Sabha Secretary-General to examine the notice and take appropriate action.

According to Congress sources cited by news agency ANI, Rahul Gandhi did not sign the notice of no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla, as it is not proper for the LoP to sign a petition for the removal of the Speaker in a parliamentary democracy.

A total of 118 MPs have signed the notice, the sources added. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor supported the party's decision, saying, "All I can say is that I am ready for the budget speech.

"Whatever the party has asked me to do, the party has decided to do. Obviously, as a party member, I support the party."

Opposition Allegations

The notice, shared by Congress MP Manickam Tagore on the social media platform X, explicitly accuses the Speaker of "partisanship." The opposition claims that its leaders were denied a chance to speak.

The notice mentions four key incidents, including Rahul Gandhi being prevented from speaking during the debate on the motion of thanks on the President's address. Rahul Gandhi had cited former Army Chief General MM Naravane's unpublished book on the 2020 China standoff.

Apart from this, the suspension of eight MPs, an objectionable attack on former Prime Ministers by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and the statement of the Speaker in which he had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to come to the House were also raised.

TMC Keeps Condition Ahead Of Signing Notice

Meanwhile, TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee said his party had appealed to the Congress to talk to the Speaker before bringing the no-confidence motion.

TMC made it clear that if the Speaker does not act on the opposition's demand within two-three days, they will sign the notice.
