The long-pending recruitment process for 600 Class III posts under the Jharkhand Forest and Environment Department is expected to begin soon. The department will send a proposal to the state government to initiate fresh appointments, addressing a persistent demand for filling Guard and Ranger positions crucial to forest surveillance and conservation.
Currently, there are around 1,200 vacancies across these cadres, out of which some will be filled through promotions. Due to a severe manpower shortage, only about 20 rangers are presently managing forest operations, with each ranger overseeing five to ten ranges. Once the recruitment is completed, every range will have a dedicated ranger.
Earlier in 2022, the recruitment process for these posts was kicked off, but had to be halted due to a lack of clarity on local status and educational qualification norms.
The Forest Department oversees projects worth over Rs 200 crore annually, including plantation and infrastructure-related activities. Officials believe that with new appointments and improved field monitoring, the execution of schemes in forest areas will become smoother and more efficient.
