Navneet, a Data Science student at the Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra in Jharkhand, has developed an innovative "vision drone" that could revolutionise the industry. This advanced drone operates entirely on a 5G network and a unique optical fiber-based control system, allowing it to be flown securely from anywhere in the world.

Secure And Advanced Technology

Navneet explains that conventional drones rely on radio signals, which limits their range and makes them vulnerable to hacking and signal loss, especially in urban environments. His vision drone overcomes these challenges by using the internet for control.

Key features of the technology include:

- Global Control: The drone can be operated solely through coding and an internet connection, eliminating range limitations.

- Hacker-Proof: The absence of radio signals makes the control system highly secure and resistant to hacking.

- Urban Reliability: It is not affected by signal interference from tall buildings, making it ideal for use in cities during riots, accidents, or security operations.

- High-Resolution Imaging: Its powerful lens allows for clear viewing of objects within its operational range.

Commercial Success And Future Plans

This innovation is already seeing practical application. Navneet reported that his team has sold several drones to a client in the United Kingdom, where they are being used for intra-city deliveries and transporting goods between cities.

Looking ahead, Navneet plans to establish a manufacturing base in his home state of Jharkhand. With a grant from the MSME (Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises), he intends to launch a company for large-scale production. "Jharkhand is ready to enter the drone age," he said, noting the state's improving environment for startups.

Potential In Defence And Disaster Management

The vision drone has also attracted significant interest from the Indian defense sector. At the recent East Tech Defence Expo 2025 in Ranchi, Navneet showcased the project to army officials, who were impressed by its potential for secure, long-distance operations.

This technology could be invaluable for:

- Delivering relief supplies during floods.

- Conducting surveillance in dense forests.

- Ensuring security at large-scale public events.

Navneet's ultimate goal is for his "Made in India" innovation to set a new global standard for drone technology, positioning Jharkhand as a future hub for technological innovation.
