Harmful Hair Ingredients: Hair is an important part that enhances the overall beauty of individuals. When it comes to maintaining hair healthily, little do people know that it is beyond just shampooing and conditioning regularly. Most people experiment with home remedies, the trending hacks or expensive products; all these can do more harm than good to the hair’s health. Although some may be good, others can cause permanent damage, resulting in dryness, breakage or hair loss. Thus, it becomes equally important to know what needs to be avoided and what needs to be applied.

Whether it is some pantry essentials or daily beauty regimens, there are some common things that you might tend to put in your hair, but can eventually have more negative consequences than benefits. What might be an easy solution to add shine or volume to the hair may strip the hair of natural oils, clog the scalp and also cause damage to the hair shaft. Thus, to maintain healthier, shinier and stronger locks, here are the five common things that should never be put on the hair.

Things That Shouldn’t Be Used On The Hair

Glue

Although people do not consciously use glue on their hair, it is sometimes used for fixing wigs or extensions. The problem happens when they need to remove the glue. Its stubborn nature takes a lot of time and effort for its removal. But things may turn critical when hair needs to be cut or medical attention has to be called in. It is better to plan your hairstyle and see if it can be managed without super glue substances and use pins or clips instead.

Raw Essential Oils

This forms an important part of the haircare routine. However, raw essential oil must not be used without diluting with a carrier oil like coconut, argon or jojoba. Undiluted essential oils have a tendency to cause scalp irritation and burns.

Kitchen Hacks

Most everyday kitchen items are used as hair care hacks. However, items like eggs should ideally be avoided for their strong odour and even if used as a hair pack, it must not be rinsed with hot water. Raw eggs may start cooking with hot water and the residue formed is not very easy to get rid of. Also, baking soda is generally used for home hair packs, but it must be avoided for its high alkaline content, which makes the scalp dry.

Petrol Jelly

Sometimes, petroleum jelly is used to keep the hair in place. This is used as a quick hack when no setting spray or gel is available nearby. However, it is better to avoid petroleum jelly as it can become the cause of a greasy scalp and sticky residue, which takes a long time and numerous shampoo attempts to finally leave the scalp.

Bleach

This is one of the common processes that is done on the hair. It is usually done to get rid of the natural hair colour before applying a colour of your choice. It is mostly suggested that hair bleaching should be avoided at home or with less knowledge of what it can do to the hair.
