There is an abundance of healthy protein sources that satiate the body’s daily requirements, especially animal sources. However many fitness enthusiasts look for vegan alternatives for animal protein as a part of their healthy diet. It is a common concern for vegetarians that vegan diets usually lack the protein required for muscle growth and building. 1. Pulses

Pulses are an incredible source of protein, iron, fibre, minerals and other vital nutrients. According to the British Heart Foundation, a daily serving helps to lower your cholesterol level and counts toward your 5-a-day. If you buy tinned pulses, check the label and choose ones that have no added salt or sugar.

2. Soya Beans

To satiate your daily protein requirements, you can include soya beans into your diet. Soya beans are known to be complete protein sources as compared to animal protein sources. Consuming about 25 grams of soya protein a day by replacing meat can help lower your cholesterol levels and keep your heart healthy.

According to Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, one cup cooked of quinoa provides about 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of fibre. Unlike some plant proteins, quinoa is a complete protein, which means that it contains all nine essential amino acids that our bodies cannot make on their own.

4. Dairy Products

Dairy products such as milk, cheese, yoghurt and others are excellent sources of protein and calcium. They are considered high-quality protein as they consist of all the essential amino acids, which our body can’t make and come from food only.

5. Chia Seeds

Another healthy vegan protein source is chia seeds which can be included in your diet in various ways.
