Unhealthy Habits For Kidneys: Amongst vital body parts and functions of the human body, kidneys act as a special filter for the body by removing waste products from the blood and producing urine. They also help to balance the body’s minerals such as sodium and potassium. Therefore, it is of utmost priority to keep the kidneys healthy for the proper functioning of the body.
But we certainly practise certain habits that may cause short and long-term harm to the kidneys. Alcohol consumption, smoking, eating unhealthy foods and many others can have damaging effects on the kidneys. Here, we have listed some common habits that you must avoid to protect your kidneys and keep them healthy.
Unhealthy Habits For Kidneys
Smoking
If you are in the habit of smoking, then you are doing the quickest damage to your kidneys. Smoking narrows the blood vessels in the kidneys, leads to arteriosclerosis in the renal arteries and increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases as well. It can also cause poor blood flow to the kidneys which may cause kidney damage over time.
Not Urinating Enough
According to WebMD, your kidneys make more or less urine, depending on what your body needs to keep things in balance. If you pee too much or not enough, it can be a sign that something is wrong. Anuria means your kidneys are producing very little to no pee, at 100 millilitres or 3 ounces of urine or less per day. This can cause kidney failure.

Dehydration

Chronic dehydration can cause the production of urine that has a higher concentration of minerals and waste products. This can further cause the formation of crystals which can deteriorate kidney functioning and lead to kidney stones and other kidney-related problems.
Too Much Salt Intake
If you are someone who loves to eat too much salt, then you may want to stop. Adding extra salt to your foods may raise blood pressure levels and cause kidney stones. Therefore, it is important to limit your daily salt intake.
Not Eating Right
Eating the right kinds of foods is important to maintain your kidney health. From opting for less sodium foods to eliminating processed foods, you should keep healthy eating habits to promote good health of your kidneys.
