Health Benefits Of Dates: Dates also known as ‘Khajoor’ are widely consumed food that offers a variety of surprising health benefits. They are a great sugary food substitute and have an excellent nutritional profile that makes them a great addition to your regular regimen. According to the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), about 100 grams or four dates contains a high percentage of your recommended daily amount of calcium, magnesium, copper, manganese, potassium and vitamin B6.

Dates are an excellent source of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, protein, fibre, potassium, calcium and many others that promote a healthy body and well-being. Also, they contain an abundance of antioxidants that keep several illnesses and diseases at bay.

The abundance of fibre in dates makes it an ideal food that can improve and enhance gut health. Fibre is known to promote feelings of fullness and curb hunger and overeating. Eating plenty of dates can help you satiate your daily fibre requirements and further improve your heart health, keep blood sugar levels steady, lower (LDL) cholesterol levels and total cholesterol, prevent weight gain and obesity and reduce your risk for colorectal cancer, stroke, Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.

The Cleveland Clinic states that you can use dates as a healthy substitute for sugar and include them in your daily diet. You can make a sweet date paste by mixing dates with water in a blender. To use it as a sugar substitute, swap it at a 1:1 ratio, so if your recipe includes 1 cup of sugar, use 1 cup of date paste instead. You will consume less sugar and more nutrients necessary for the body.
