Effects Of Air Conditioners On Skin: As temperatures rise, air conditioning becomes a refuge from the heat. Yet, extended periods in air-conditioned environments can quietly wreak havoc on our skin. The dry air from air conditioners can dehydrate the skin and leave you with a dull face. The dry skin further deteriorates the skin's health and makes it itchy and flaky. In some worsened cases, the air conditioner imbalances the moisture of the skin and leads to eczema and rosacea or psoriasis. Air conditioners work by cooling the air and reducing humidity, creating a drier environment indoors. This low-humidity air draws moisture from our skin, which can lead to dehydration. You might notice your skin feeling tighter, itchier, or even flaking. This is especially common if you already have dry or sensitive skin, but it can affect all skin types.
Barrier Breakdown
Our skin has a natural barrier, the outermost layer called the stratum corneum, which helps retain moisture and shield against irritants. When exposed to the dry air from AC units, this barrier can become compromised. This makes your skin more vulnerable to irritation, which can trigger or worsen conditions like eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis.

Oily Skin and Breakouts
Interestingly, some people might find their skin becomes oilier when they spend a lot of time in air-conditioned spaces. When your skin is dehydrated, it might respond by producing more sebum to compensate, leading to an oily complexion and potentially more breakouts.

Balance Your Environment: Try to spend time in naturally ventilated areas when possible, to give your skin a break from the dry, conditioned air.
Use Gentle Cleansers: Harsh soaps can strip your skin of its natural oils, exacerbating dryness. Opt for gentle, hydrating cleansers instead.
Protect Sensitive Areas: Don’t forget your lips and eyes, they are often the first to feel the effects of dry air. Use a good lip balm and a lightweight eye cream to keep these areas moisturised.
