Tips To Detoxify Lungs: With the recent advances, in matter of a just a click, we get to see various chemicals/herbal remedies/essential oils which can aid in the detoxification of the lungs. But to what extent does this work? Is there any medically proven research for the same? This is what we delve into. Our lungs are self-cleaning organs which begin to heal once they are no longer regularly exposed to pollutants and irritants. The best way to achieve optimal lung health is by avoiding harmful toxins found in the atmosphere such as cigarette smoke, vaping, and air pollution, while focusing on healthy habits like regular exercise and a balanced diet.
In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr. Suhas H S, Consultant Pulmonology, Manipal Hospital Sarjapur Road listed effective tips to detoxify lungs easily.
Tips To Detoxify Lungs
For smokers, quitting smoking is the most effective way to reduce further damage. Avoiding second-hand smoke is equally important, as it can directly harm lung tissue.
Deep breathing exercises, like diaphragmatic and pursed-lip breathing, are known to improve lung function especially in those with underlying lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Quality of air we breathe in is equally important: whether indoors: using vacuum cleaner/HEPA filters to reduce dust exposure/allergen exposure OR outdoors, where air quality index (AQI) plays a major role in physical well-being. The lower the AQI, the better is the lung health.
Regular physical exercise like running, swimming, or walking enhances lung capacity. Even yoga with its focus on controlled breathing is beneficial for lung health.
Diet plays an important role in overall health, including lung function. A healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains provides the necessary nutrients needed for optimal lung health. Include antioxidant-rich foods (berries, leafy greens, ginger, turmeric, and citrus fruits) in your meals to help reduce inflammation of the respiratory tract. Maintain adequate hydration.
These lifestyle choices if applied to your daily routine can significantly help improve your lung function and overall well-being.
