Taking good care of your skin is essential for keeping a healthy and glowing complexion, especially in the winter. Winter's chilly, dry air can deplete your skin of its natural moisture, causing flakiness, dryness, and even inflammation. It's critical to hydrate your skin with a decent moisturizer, drink lots of water, and use gentle cleansers to counteract these effects.

Remember to shield your skin from the intense winter sun—UV radiation can still do harm even on chilly days. You can keep your skin looking and feeling its best all winter by sticking to a regular skincare regimen and paying particular attention to its requirements.

Dr. Shikha said, "Winter demands special care for your skin. The cold, dry air and indoor heating pose unique challenges, making skin hydration critical. Low humidity levels can lead to trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL), causing skin dehydration. To combat this, choose clinically proven moisturizers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and glycerin to lock in moisture. Apply these immediately after showering to preserve the skin's barrier. Gentle cleansing is essential to avoid stripping the skin of its natural oils. Opt for mild, pH-balanced, fragrance-free cleansers and avoid prolonged exposure to hot water. Sunscreen remains crucial, as UV rays can still harm your skin in winter, especially with snow reflecting UV radiation. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher, and remember to reapply when spending time outdoors. Indoor heating can significantly reduce humidity levels, so consider using a humidifier to maintain optimal indoor humidity."

At last, she said, "Exfoliation can help remove dead skin cells that accumulate during winter, promoting a brighter complexion. Use gentle exfoliants with alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) or beta-hydroxy acids (BHAs) once or twice a week, and avoid abrasive scrubbing. Limit hot showers, as hot water can strip your skin's natural oils. Use a cotton towel to dry your skin after taking a bath. Protect your skin from harsh winter elements by wearing layers, gloves, scarves, and hats. A balanced diet with vitamins, antioxidants, and omega-3 fatty acids, along with proper hydration, supports your skin from the inside. In case of severe skin issues or persistent symptoms, consult a dermatologist for personalized winter skincare recommendations, which may include clinical treatments such as topical steroids if necessary."
