JE Lifestyle Desk: Yoga is an ancient method to lead a healthy and peaceful life. It plays an integral part in keeping our body and mind healthy. Every year, International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21 to uplift the practice of yoga and to make people aware of its importance and benefits. This special day also aims to promote yoga as a regular practice that connects the body, mind and breath. 

The theme for International Yoga Day 2023 is “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which represents our shared desire for “One Earth, One Family, One Future.” Yoga can be included in our everyday routine to enjoy its maximum benefits. Here are some simple yoga poses that you can include in your daily regime for a healthy and fit body. 

Yoga Asanas You Can Practise Daily 

1. Vajrasana

Also known as Thunderbolt or Diamond pose is a kneeling asana which has been named after the shape it takes. This yoga pose is tremendously beneficial for our digestive system in many ways. This simple kneeling pose aids in digestion relieves constipation and strengthens pelvic muscles. 

2. Naukasana

Naukasana yoga pose is simply practised by lying on the floor facing upwards and your knees and legs straight on the floor. It is also known as Boat pose or Paripurna Navasana and is particularly beneficial in regulating blood sugar levels and strengthening the abdominal muscles. However, people with back, neck or knee injuries should refrain from practising this pose. 

3. Sukhasana

Sukhasana, Happy or Easy pose is performed in a simple seated position. It is touted as one of the most basic and easy poses in yoga and can be included in your daily routine. This yoga pose has a calming effect on our mind which helps in reducing stress and anxiety, further improving concentration. 

4. Padahastasana

The Standing Forward Bend pose is an intense bending pose that stimulates digestion by enhancing the functions of various digestive organs. It is one of the best yoga asanas to reduce belly fat and lose significant weight. 

5. Padmasana

The Lotus position yoga pose is a cross-legged meditation pose which facilitates digestion and relieves constipation and other digestive problems. It is an ideal pose to strengthen your joints and bones. Not only this, this yoga pose is efficient to relieve period cramps as well. 

6. Shavasana

Shavasana or Corpse pose is used for relaxation at the end of your yoga session. It is an integral yoga pose in restorative yoga. It is one of the most relaxing yoga asanas which includes meditating in the supine position.
