Vitamin B12 deficiency is a cause of major health concern as it leads to problems like weak muscles, nausea, increased heart rate, weight loss and others. Due to the deficiency of vitamin B12 or folate deficiency, metabolic abnormalities take place. The body fails to provide enough oxygen to the Red Blood Cells due to which the body doesn't work properly.
Many times this deficiency of Vitamin B12 goes undetected as the symptoms are mistaken for another health concern.
What Happens With Low Vitamin B12?
When your body has low vitamin B12, it starts showing symptoms like a pale face, weak muscles, lethargy, headaches, depression, mouth ulcers, and inflammation in the mouth and tongue. It also results in dryness and pimples on the face. Furthermore, the symptoms include hair loss, weight loss, a confused or forgetful state, chest pain, and tingling in your hands.
While these symptoms can be confusing, it is always better to consult a doctor and get tested for B12 deficiency. There are tests that help calculate complete blood count, intrinsic factor antibodies, Schilling test and Methylmalonic acid level (MMA) that help identify the problem.
