Your skin is not just the outer layer of your body, it’s also a powerful communicator of your internal health. Whether it’s sudden dryness, unusual rashes or persistent acne, your skin often shows early signs of underlying issues. Listening to your skin and understanding these signs can help you take timely action and prevent long-term damage. In a conversation with The Daily Jagran, Dr. Meenu Malik, Visiting Consultant, Dermatology at Aakash Healthcare Hospital shared valuable insights on common skin concerns and how to manage them.

Common Skin Concerns And Their Solutions

Sudden Dryness And Flaking

Dry, flaky skin is one of the most common issues, especially in changing weather. It may indicate dehydration, poor skincare habits or even conditions like eczema or hypothyroidism.

Solution: Use a gentle cleanser, apply a hydrating moisturiser twice a day, and increase your water intake. If dryness persists, consult a dermatologist for further evaluation.

Frequent Breakouts Or Acne

Acne isn’t just a teenage issue it can affect adults too. Hormonal imbalances, stress and poor diet are common triggers. Recurring acne around the jawline or chin may suggest hormonal imbalance. Also, overuse of comedogenic products can worsen it.

Solution: Cleanse your skin twice daily, avoid touching your face often, and use non-comedogenic skincare. In severe cases, seek professional dermatological care.

Unusual Pigmentation Or Dark Patches

Hyperpigmentation, melasma or dark patches can be a result of sun exposure, hormonal changes or certain medications. Pigmentation issues are common, especially in Indian skin types. Ignoring them can make treatment longer and harder.

Solution: Daily use of sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher is crucial. Dermatological treatments like chemical peels or laser therapy may also help.
