New Delhi | Jagran Lifestyle Desk: Weeks after witnessing the last Solar Eclipse of the decade on December 26, India is about to witness another celestial event early this year. The lunar eclipse will begins at 10:39 pm on the full moon night of January 10 (Friday) and it will last till 2:40 am on January 11 (Saturday). The first lunar eclipse of the 2020 will be visible from Europe, Africa and Asia. According to NASA’s list of lunar eclipses, the upcoming eclipse, also known as 'Wolf Moon' Eclipse, will be visible for four hours ad five minutes. Why does a lunar eclipse occur?

As per religious beliefs, when Rahu hits the moon on the full moon day, the moon is hidden for some time, this phenomenon is called a lunar eclipse.

According to astronomy, a lunar eclipse is a celestial phenomenon. When the Earth moves between the Moon and the Sun orbiting the Sun, the Moon gets covered and the Sun's rays is ubale to reach the Moon, this causes a lunar eclipse.

There will be 4 lunar eclipses in 2020

There are a total of 4 lunar eclipses this year, with the first lunar eclipse taking place on Friday. Apart from this, there will be two solar eclipses this year.

First lunar eclipse: 10-11 January

Second lunar eclipse: June 5-6

Third lunar eclipse: 4-5 July

Fourth lunar eclipse: 29-30 November

First solar eclipse of the year: 21 June

Last or second solar eclipse of the year: 14 December

According to religious beliefs, one should remember God at the time of lunar eclipse or solar eclipse. During this time, eating food, sleeping, doing auspicious or new work, drinking water, making hairstyle, brushing, degrading clothes, having sexual intercourse etc. are considered taboo. At the time of eclipse, pregnant women should take special care. Unlike solar eclipse, lunar eclipse can be seen from direct eye during the unique celestial phenomena.
