Medications To Never Mix With Coffee: Are you someone who can’t survive the day without their favourite cup of coffee? Beginning the day with a cup of coffee can elevate one’s mood, and boost energy and productivity. But while you sip your coffee, mixing your medication with it may not be a good idea for your overall health. If you are taking certain medications and you combine them with your coffee, you may experience certain disastrous side effects on your body.

Taking your medications while drinking coffee may affect how well they may work for your body. Consumption of coffee along with medicines may affect the absorption, disruption, metabolism and excretion of certain drugs. Here are some medications that you should never mix with your coffee. 

Medicatons To Never Mix With Coffee

Thyroid Medicine

According to the NHS, levothyroxine is a medicine used to treat an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism). The thyroid gland makes thyroid hormones which help to control energy levels and growth. Levothyroxine is taken to replace the missing thyroid hormone thyroxine. You should never take thyroid medicine with coffee as it affects the absorption of the medications. You should avoid drinking coffee after 2 hours of medications. 

Diabetes Medications

Coffee contains chemicals known as canines which are bound to certain medications for depression such as diabetes medications. They decrease the absorption of the medicinetherefore avoid consuming coffee one hour before and two hours after taking your diabetes medicines.

Asthma Medications

Inhaled corticosteroids are known to be the most effective medicines for treating asthma. While many asthma patients also take bronchodilators like aminophylline or theophylline during a flare-up. Consuming drinks high in caffeine affects how much medication is absorbed by the body. 

Antidepressants

Antidepressants work to relieve the symptoms of depression and anxiety. Although they are generally safe, taking them with coffee might harm your health and affect their effectiveness. When combined together, coffee and antidepressants may worsen mental health as caffeine may counteract the effects of the drug. 

Blood Pressure Medicines

Beta-blockers, angiotensin receptor blockers and many others are medications taken for managing high blood pressure. Taking these medicines with coffee can increase blood pressure by accentuating the adrenaline action in the heart.
