The utmost auspicious occasion of Sawan began on July 4 and devotees are immersed in the celebrations of this festival. Sawan also known as Shrawan maas holds great significance in the Hindu community and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The whole month of Sawan is considered auspicious and devotees observe fasts during Shravan month. This year will witness eight Shravan somwar instead of four, adding to the heightened enthusiasm and celebrations.

The first Monday of the Shravan maas will be observed on July 10 when the devotees will worship Lord Shiva and observe the whole day fast to seek blessings of the deity. According to popular beliefs, it is considered auspicious to bring some things related to Lord Shiva at your home during Sawan to bring luck, prosperity and happiness in your life.

1. Pair Of Naag-Nagin

Naag-Nagin is considered a pious symbol of Lord Shiva. Placing a copper idol of Naag-Nagin at your home keeps the negative energies out of your house. The idols are worshipped with milk, flowers, fruits and lighted diyas to receive the utmost blessings of the deity.

2. Trishul

The popular beliefs state that Trishul represents the three aspects of consciousness including waking, dreaming and sleeping. It signifies that Lord Shiva is above all these three states and yet is also the upholder of these three states. Trishul is a sacred symbol of Lord Shiva in Hinduism and bringing a silver Trishul on the Monday of Sawan helps in getting rid of major troubles of life.

3. Gangajal

Ganga jal or the holy water of the river Ganga is widely used for religious and auspicious works. It destroys sins and evil thoughts, thus purifying the body and soul. During Sawan month, Jal Abhishek of Lord Shiva is performed using Ganga jal to seek the blessings of the deity.

4. Rudraksha

Rudraksha is known as one of the most precious and sacred beads and is known for its divine healing powers. It is believed that those who wear or keep Rudraksha with themselves seek the abundant blessings of Lord Shiva.

5. Bhasma

It signifies the burning ego to ashes to unite with the divine. It also represents the liberation from mortal life. According to Hindu scriptures, it is believed that Lord Shiva used to apply bhasma over his body to signify purity.
