JE Lifestyle Desk: The holy month of Sawan 2023 is about to begin in a day and the preparations are in full swing. It is an auspicious month observed by the Hindu community with great devotion and enthusiasm across the country. This year the month of Sawan is extra special and rare as it will be observed for two months. This year will witness eight Shravan somwar instead of four, adding to the heightened enthusiasm and celebrations. 

The Sawan or Shravan month holds immense significance and devotees worship Lord Shiva during the whole month. Devotees observe fasts and seek blessings of the deity the entire month. While the whole month is holy, every Monday of Shravan maas is auspicious to observe fast and seek blessings of the deity. The Shravan month will begin on July 04, 2023 (tomorrow). As this occasion is near, here are some important things that devotees should keep in mind while observing Shravan month. 

Important Things Devotees Should Keep In Mind While Observing Shravan Maas

1. Devotees should observe strict fasts every Monday of the Shravan maas to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. 

2. Performing Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva should be done regularly.

3. Prepare panchamrit using milk, curd, honey, sugar and ghee to offer to the deity. Perform the Jal Abhishek using panchamrit every morning after taking a bath. 

4. Wearing a rudraksha mala and chanting the mantras of Lord Shiva is considered extremely fruitful during the Sawan month. 

5. Married women can also observe Mangal Gauri vrat during the Shravan maas and seek the blessings of the goddess. 

6. Chanting of Maha Mrityunjaya mantra 108 times a day is considered very auspicious to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. 

7. Devotees should abstain from consuming non-vegetarian food, onion, garlic and alcohol during the pious period of Sawan. 

8. Men who are observing the sawan fast should not practise shaving during the entire month. 

9. Breaking the fast in the middle after taking the Sankalp of fasting in Sawan is considered a sin.

10. Be respectful, practise gratitude and be kind to everyone during this holy period.  

11. While we keep fast, we should also remember to keep providing the body with the necessary nutrients to not fall sick.

12. During the month of Sawan, we should replace table salt with rock salt for cooking.

13. To obtain the blessings of Lord Shiva and Parvati, people keep 'Sawan Somwar' fasts.
