Skin Pinch Test For Dehydration: Keeping your body hydrated is one of the most important habits that you can adopt to keep yourself healthy. Adequate hydration enhances bodily functions by delivering essential nutrients to the cells. Hydration is important for proper muscle function, prevents kidney stones and mild headaches and is also linked to reducing the risk of certain diseases like heart failure and diabetes.

Therefore, keeping yourself hydrated is extremely crucial, but how do you know that your body is hydrated or dehydrated? Apart from some signs that your body gives you, performing a skin pinch test can analyse your hydration levels.

What Is Skin Pinch Test?

Also known as the ‘Skin Turgor Test’, this test is a popular method to check for dehydration. It is a painless and non-invasive way to check dehydration and elasticity of your skin. You can quickly test your skin hydration at home with this test.

How To Do Skin Pinch Test?

To do a skin pinch test, lightly pinch your arms or abdomen skin. Notice how long your skin takes to bounce back. If it takes longer than usual to bounce back, this may be a sign of dehydration. This is because as we age, our skin tends to lose its elasticity. Due to this, an older person’s skin usually takes about 20 seconds to return to normal, if pinched.

Ways To Hydrate Your Skin

Drink More Water

Drinking sufficient water keeps your skin well-hydrated and refreshed and maintains moisture levels and elasticity. Consuming at least 8-10 glasses of water every day can help minimise the appearance of wrinkles, scars and soft lines and help you achieve clear and smooth skin.

Use Moisturisers

Using moisturisers is an effective skincare method to hydrate your skin. Applying moisturisers can help improve skin elasticity, reducing blemishes and pigmentation. It also protects your skin from sunburns, tanning and dark spots.

Balanced Diet

What you eat and drink directly impacts your skin health. Incorporating healthy foods like green leafy vegetables, fruits, seeds and nuts can help reduce the appearance of dark circles and fine lines and promote hydration.
