Solar Eclipse 2024 Eye Protection Tips: A total solar eclipse will cover the skies today, on April 8 (Monday) across the world. Usually, when the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun by obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth, this phenomenon is known as Solar Eclipse. This will be the first solar eclipse of the year, while the first lunar eclipse occurred on March 25 and coincided with the Holi festival. Known as the ‘Total Solar Eclipse’ this phenomenon occurs when the moon passes so far from behind the Sun that the Earth momentarily gets illuminated by the Sun’s light. The eclipse will pass through North America, allowing millions of people to watch the rare totally-obstructed sun. But people must be careful while watching the eclipse as directly seeing the grahan can have damaging effects on the eyes. Therefore, here are some tips that you can follow while watching the total solar eclipse while protecting your eyes.

Tips For Eye Protection During Surya Grahan

- Exposing your eyes directly to the Sun during an eclipse can have effects that can cause immediate and permanent damage to your eyes. It can cause immediate and permanent blindness or burn in the retina, known as solar retinopathy.

- According to NASA experts, avoid looking directly at the eclipsed sun as it can be harmful and dangerous for your health.

- The safest way to watch the sun during an eclipse is through special-purpose solar filters, such as eclipse glasses.

- Avoid watching the eclipse with naked eyes, even for a minute.

Timings Of Solar Eclipse 2024

As per NASA, the Pacific coast of Mexico will experience totality first, around 11:07 am PDT, and the occurrence will leave Maine at around 1:30 PM PDT. According to the Indian Standard Time (IST), the total solar eclipse will begin at 9:12 PM on April 8, 2024, and will end on April 9, 2024, at 2:22 AM.
