The constant buzzing of flies around the home, particularly near trash cans can be a frustrating and annoying problem. Flies are famous for being attracted to decaying food as well as organic waste which is what makes the kitchen and backyards a paradise for these flies. Chemical sprays might come to mind first but they come at a cost and have nasty odours too. Fortunately, there is a simple kitchen hack that can repel flies without using chemicals. This approach is not only environmentally friendly but is a safer option if you have pets or children and can give you much-needed relief from flies buzzing all around your house.
Use Kitchen Ingredients As A Simple Trick
Cinnamon and cayenne pepper can be an effective combination against flies. The rich scent of cinnamon masks odour when developed, so trash cans don’t smell appealing to flies while cayenne pepper is irritating to flies and affects their sensory receptors. Together with good sanitation, the use of these spices will reduce the number of flies that surround your trash can.

Extra Tips To Keep Your Trash Can Fly-Free
1. Be sure to empty your bin regularly to prevent rotting materials from accumulating.
2. Wash your bin out with soap and water to remove remaining residues and odours.
3. Place food scraps while sealing them or wrapping them in newspaper until disposing them off as this reduces things that can attract flies. Tighten the lid as tightly as possible to prevent flies from entering.
4. When possible, place the bin in a shaded location as heat and light will speed up decomposition and odour.
5. By implementing these habits, you'll significantly reduce the likelihood of flies being drawn to your trash can.
