AMAVASYA is regarded as one of the most auspicious occasions in the Hindu calendar. Vaishakha Amavasya is one such Amavasya which falls in the month of Vaisakh or April in the Gregorian calendar. Also referred to as the New Moon or No Moon Day, it is an auspicious day to offer your offerings to your ancestors. This special occasion is likely to coincode with the first solar eclipse of the year which will take place on April 20.

This year, Vaishakha Amvasya will be observed on April 19 and will culminate on April 20.

Vaishakha Amavasya 2023: Significance
This special day of Vaishakha Amavasya is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Devotees worship Lord Vishnu to seek blessings for a happy and prosperous life. Along with that, people offer prayers to their ancestors to appease them. According to popular beliefs, people who observe fast on this day get rid of their past sins and the deity offers their immense blessings to them. Shradh rituals are also performed on this occasion to pay homage to one’s ancestors.

Vaishakha Amavasya 2023: Puja Vidhi
Get up early in the morning at Brahma Muhurta, clean your house, take a bath and wear clean clothes. Start your day by fasting and offering prayers to Lord Sun. Offer sesame seeds to holy river water as well as to Peepal tree. Offer donations of food, and cloth to Brahmans and the poor. Spread some seeds or bajra for birds.

It is an auspicious and best time to pray with devotion and dedication. It is also a great time to purify yourself physically, mentally and spiritually. Donating necessary items such as clothes, food, etc to the needy and poor people makes the deity happy. You can also practise yoga, meditation and chant mantras during this holy period.
