In today’s fast-paced world, more and more women are choosing to prioritise their careers, education or personal goals before starting a family. This shift, while empowering, often comes with a biological dilemma that fertility doesn’t wait. As age advances, the number and quality of a woman’s eggs naturally decline, reducing the chances of a healthy pregnancy. That’s where egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, steps in as a proactive option. It allows women to preserve their younger, healthier eggs for future use, giving them greater control over their reproductive timeline.
This medical advancement has rapidly gained traction among working professionals, particularly those in demanding industries where delaying motherhood can feel like the only practical choice. Doctors now see egg freezing not just as a fertility treatment but as a form of reproductive freedom, a way for women to plan motherhood on their terms. In conversation with The Daily Jagran, Dr Sheetal Jindal - MBBS, MD OBG, EPHM (IIM Kolkata), Senior Consultant and Medical Director - Director Medical Genetics program, Jindal Ivf Chandigarh, shares how egg freezing is becoming the key to balance career and family simultaneously.

Egg Freezing
Previously considered very niche and experimental, egg freezing is now accepted in mainstream culture after the American Society for Reproductive Medicine made the pronouncement in 2013 that it was no longer experimental. The window has thus been opened for women to actively preserve their fertility, free of any ticking biological clock that forces them into unfortunate timing.

Because of their will to look for opportunities for career advancement, women choose egg freezing as they might not find the right life partner at a certain stage of life or may simply decide to wait until they feel financially secure enough to start a family. Dr Sheetal Jindal states, “This choice allows them the opportunity to work on their careers and be financially stable while holding out for a life partner who shares their values and vision for a family.”

Social Acceptance And New Possibilities
However, attitudes toward freezing eggs are also gradually changing; it now enjoys almost equal acceptance as a plausible alternative, wherein women will have reproductive independence as well as options to pursue their careers while remaining without kids until the time comes. But, in fact, egg freezing and IVF have paved the way for a different scenario for reproductive health, allowing motherhood to be enacted whenever it aligns most with a woman's aspirations, circumstances, and emotional readiness.
