History Of Thanksgiving
The Thanksgiving celebration dates back to 1621, to the harvest celebration by the Pilgrims held in Plymouth, Massachusetts. By the late 1600s, communities across New England were celebrating annual days of thanks. In 1789, George Washington declared a national Thanksgiving after Congress asked him to set the day. Later in 1863, Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving an official national holiday.
