The Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) is set to start inter-state bus services to Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan after Holi. The move is set to aid people who face problems in communication due to the unavailability of train tickets and high ticket fares charged by private operators. It will also make long-distance travel comfortable and economical for the people of Bihar.
 
According to transport officials, cited by Patna Press, nearly 150 new buses have been bought for this inter-state bus service. Currently, temporary permissions have been obtained to run these buses during festivals like Holi and Chhath. However, the government is working towards making these services permanent in the near future.

Bihar Inter-State Bus Routes: Details

  • Destinations: The new services will primarily connect Bihar to major cities in Northern and Eastern India, including Delhi, Gurugram, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.
  • Bus Types: The fleet will include a mix of 75 AC deluxe and 74 non-AC deluxe buses, operated under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
  • Booking: Passengers will be able to book tickets through the official Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) website, using various online payment methods.

Intra-State Electric Bus Systems

In addition to the inter-state bus routes, the Bihar government is also trying to increase connectivity within the state. As a step towards that direction, the Bihar government is expanding its electric bus services through these initiatives:
  • Tourist Routes: Forty new e-buses are expected to connect Patna with major tourist and historical sites such as Bodh Gaya, Rajgir, Kaimur, Sasaram, and Banka. This service will be rolled out in February 2026.
  • Pink Buses: The Pink Bus service is an initiative launched by the Nitish Kumar government in 2025, exclusively for women and children to ensure safer travel. It was initially rolled out for the cities of Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, and Patna. However, it is now expanding to areas like Daniyawan and Barbigha.
