Bangladesh Turmoil: A Hindu man was once again killed in Bangladesh. The victim, who was an employee at a petrol pump, was run over by a car when he was trying to stop it. The vehicle was running away without paying for the fuel. The car ran him over, killing him on the spot. The incident occurred on Friday in the Rajbari district of Bangladesh.

According to the police, the matter is related to a driver fleeing without paying for petrol. The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old Ripon Saha. Ripon Saha worked at Karim Filling Station, Golanda intersection. The case was reported by the Bangladeshi newspaper The Daily Star, citing police sources.

According to the police and eyewitnesses, a black SUV arrived at the petrol pump around 4:30 am on Friday. The vehicle was filled with approximately 5000 Taka (approximately 3710 Indian Rupees) worth of fuel. When the driver attempted to leave without paying, Ripon tried to stop him and stood in front of the car. It is alleged that the driver accelerated the vehicle, running over Ripon and fleeing the scene. He died instantly.

Police Arrest Accused

Khondaker Ziaur Rahman, the officer-in-charge of Rajbari Sadar Police Station, said that a murder case will be registered in this matter. Later, the police seized the vehicle and arrested the owner, Abul Hashem alias Sujan, and his driver, Kamal Hossain.

Accused's Political Connections

According to the police, Abul Hashem is a contractor and a former treasurer of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the Rajbari district. He has also served as the president of the district's Juba Dal (youth wing). According to the 2022 census of Bangladesh, the Hindu population in the country is approximately 13.1 million, which is about 7.95 percent of the total population. This incident is being seen as part of the recent spate of violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh.

Earlier this month, the Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council (BHBCUC) alleged that communal violence was escalating rapidly in the country as the general elections approached. According to the council, this violence is being perpetrated to intimidate minority voters and prevent them from voting for their preferred candidates. Parliamentary elections in Bangladesh are scheduled for February 12. The council reported that 51 incidents of communal violence were recorded in December 2025 alone.

Other Recent Murders Of Hindus

- On December 2, a 42-year-old jeweler, Prantosh Sarkar, was shot dead in Narsingdi.

- On December 18, 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das was lynched by a mob in Mymensingh on charges of alleged blasphemy, and his body was later burned.

- On December 24, Amrit Mandal was lynched in Rajbari on charges of alleged extortion.

- On December 31, Khokon Chandra Das was attacked and set on fire, and he died in the hospital on January 3.

- On January 5, grocery store owner Moni Chakraborty was murdered with a sharp weapon in Palash Upazila. On the same day, Rana Pratap Bairagi, an ice factory owner and journalist, was shot dead in Jessore district.

- On January 6, Mithun Sarkar died after jumping into a canal in Naogaon district to escape charges of theft.

- On January 7, freedom fighter Yogesh Chandra Roy and his wife Shubarna Roy were murdered in their home in Rangpur.
