Agriculture Minister Ramkripal Yadav on Wednesday said that the Bihar government is focused on ensuring fair prices for farmers, strengthening a transparent market system, and promoting value addition in agriculture. To achieve these goals, the state has approved the Bihar Agriculture Acceleration Mission (BAAM) and the Bihar Agriculture Infrastructure Mission (BAIM), with their implementation being carried out through the Directorate of Agricultural Marketing.

As part of these initiatives, agricultural market yards across the state are being modernised in a phased manner. Currently, development work worth Rs 1,289.07 crore is underway at 21 market yards.

In addition, projects amounting to Rs 540.61 crore have been approved for the development of nine market yards in Sasaram, Begusarai, Katihar, Forbesganj, Jehanabad, Darbhanga, Kishanganj, Chhapra and Bihta, where construction work is currently in progress.

The upgraded market yards will be equipped with modern infrastructure, including vending platforms, shops, weighbridges, drainage systems, administrative buildings, worker rest houses, guest houses, fish and banana markets, internal roads, solar panels, staff canteens and waste management facilities such as composting plants. The government said these improvements are expected to attract farmers, traders, entrepreneurs, processing units and exporters, boost competition, and help farmers secure better prices for their produce.
