Siwan, Assembly Constituency no. 105, went tothe polls in the first phase of the Bihar elections and recorded a voter turnout of 59.07 per cent. The contest in the seat is between RJD's incumbent Awadh Bihari Choudhary and BJP's Mangal Pandey. While Choudhary has held the seat for the record six times between 1985 and 2020, Pandey is a BJP heavyweight who served as the Health Minister in the outgoing Nitish Kumar government.
In the last election, RJD's Awadh Bihari Choudhary won the Siwan Vidhan Sabha seat, prior to which, the constituency remained with the BJP for 15 years. Since 1985, the BJP has emerged as the only force that has kept the seat from becoming the RJD fortress by winning three consecutive elections between 2005 and 2020. It was one of the 36 assembly seats to have VVPAT-enabled electronic voting machines (EVMs).
