The Delhi government has implemented a colour-coding bedsheet system in all government hospitals in Delhi to provide better hygiene, infection control, and a positive environment for patients. This new system, launched under the 'Kayakalp' initiative led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, was announced on Wednesday by Health Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh.
Under this scheme, a specifically coloured bedsheet will now be used for each day of the week in all government hospitals. The colour sequence is as follows: Monday: white, Tuesday: pink, Wednesday: green, Thursday: purple, Friday: blue, Saturday: light grey, and Sunday: peach.

All hospitals will have an adequate stock of these seven colours of bedsheets, ensuring that they are changed daily. Special attention has been paid to quality and uniformity in the procurement of new linen.
It has been claimed that changing bedsheets daily will reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections. Patients will get a clean environment, their morale will be boosted, and transparency will be ensured in hospitals.

According to the protocol of the central government's 'Kayakalp' programme, it is mandatory to handle, transport, and wash contaminated linen separately in hot water. The colour-coding system will facilitate compliance with these standards and assist hospital staff in managing the rotation system.
As per the health department, the Delhi government's highest priority is to provide better healthcare services to patients. This seven-colour system will strengthen hygiene standards, boost the morale of hospital staff, and create a clean, safe, and trustworthy environment in government hospitals.
