Mumbai News: A man in his forties was seriously injured after being shot by three unidentified assailants in Mumbai’s Kandivali West on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place in the Charkop area, where the victim, identified as Freddy D’Lima, was attacked near Garuda Petrol Pump around 2 PM.

According to police, D’Lima, who works in the real estate sector and refers to himself as a social worker, was walking on the road when three men wearing helmets approached him on a motorcycle. One of them fired two rounds at close range before the trio fled the spot. CCTV cameras in the area captured them leaving the scene.

According to a Times Of India report, D’Lima suffered bullet wounds to his chest and abdomen. Despite the injuries, he managed to get into his car and drive himself to Oscar Hospital, located a short distance away. Doctors performed surgery to remove both bullets, and he is currently admitted to the ICCU in an unconscious state.

Family members said they were unaware of any threats or disputes. His wife, Nirmala, said she was alerted by a relative about the attack. “We rushed to the hospital… I’m yet to see him. He is in the ICCU and is unconscious,” she said. She added that D’Lima did not discuss his work at home.

The TOI report cited a police officer as confirming that D’Lima had attempted to lodge a non-cognisable complaint a few days earlier after allegedly receiving threats. Investigators are examining whether the attack may be linked to an SRA-related conflict or a financial disagreement.

The shooting occurred shortly after D’Lima visited Fr Sosai English School to meet an acquaintance. The acquaintance later told mediapersons that he was not present at the time.

Charkop police have registered a case of attempted murder. The crime branch is conducting a parallel probe. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify the attackers and further investigation is in progress.
