Priyanka Chopra, a global star and Indian actress, recently spoke about one of the most emotional periods in her life – the early arrival of her daughter, Malti Marie. Priyanka Chopra and her husband, Nick Jonas, welcomed Malti via surrogacy in January 2022. Malti Marie was born premature at just 27 weeks and had to spend over 100 days in the NICU. Priyanka Chopra has now revealed how she overcame this challenging period in her life.
Priyanka Chopra Recalls The Days When Her Daughter Malti Was Born Premature
In a conversation on a podcast with Jay Shetty, Priyanka shared that Malti was extremely premature and had to be kept in the NICU of the hospital for over three months. It was a very difficult time for them.
Priyanka said, “We were not prepared. We didn’t even know if she would recover.” They had to announce the birth of their daughter earlier than they wanted because the media had already discovered the news.

Used To Play Mahamrityunjaya Mantra
Priyanka got emotional while remembering the moment she first laid eyes on Malti. She said, “She was so small, purple and making a small kitten-like sound.” She revealed that only one parent was allowed in the NICU at a time, so Priyanka and Nick alternated staying with their baby.
Recalling those emotional days, Priyanka said, “Nick would sing and play guitar for Malti, and I used to play the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra, Gayatri Mantra, and Om Namah Shivaya near her crib. ” She found Malti to be very sweet and precious,s and that her arrival in the world was very hard but very courageous.

Malti calls herself an Indian Princess.
Malti turned four years old this January. Priyanka keeps posting cute stories about her daughter. In the Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show, she shared that when Malti wears a ghagra-choli with a bindi and bangles, she calls herself an Indian Princess.
Priyanka Chopra ensures that her daughter is connected with the Indian traditions. Priyanka and Nick Jonas, who married in Rajasthan on 1st and 2nd December 2018 in both Hindu and Christian traditions, continue to celebrate both traditions with their daughter.
