The Gurugram Municipal Corporation is working to find a permanent solution to the long-standing problems of sewer overflow and waterlogging in the city. Approximately 70 per cent of the work at 40 major problem areas related to sewers within the corporation's jurisdiction has now been completed, with directives issued to finish the remaining tasks by April 2026.
This information was shared during a review meeting of the Sewerage Management Cell and the Monsoon Management Cell, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya. It was reported in the meeting that desilting work is being carried out continuously at dozens of sensitive locations using bucket machines, super suckers, and jetting machines.

A permanent solution to the sewer overflow problem has been found in several wards, bringing relief to residents. Officials have been instructed to complete the remaining work in other areas to a high standard and within the specified timeframe.
During the review, it was stated that work on new sewer lines, water supply lines, and the master sewer is in progress in Saraswati Enclave, Shakti Park, Sector-10, and the Khandsa area of Ward-9. The master sewer line work on Pataudi Road has been completed. In Indira Colony and Tigra of Ward-14, the process of obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the relevant agencies has been initiated to resolve technical difficulties arising from a sensitive petroleum pipeline.
Work was carried out in these locations: In Narsinghpur, Mohammadpur Jharsa, and Begumpur Khatola of Ward-17, desilting work has been completed in most areas. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a two MLD Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Begumpur Khatola has also been submitted.
In Ghata, Ullawas, Bandhwari, and Behrampur of Ward-20, complaints of regular blockages are being addressed promptly. In Bandhwari, approximately 80 per cent of the work on constructing a sump well and laying the pipeline is complete, with a target for full completion by March 2026.
In a review by the Monsoon Management Cell, 159 potential waterlogging sites across the city have been identified. To ensure these are addressed before the monsoon, tasks including civil works, connectivity to drains, electrification, channelisation of ponds, repair of rainwater harvesting systems, and regular cleaning have been planned.
Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya has instructed officials to complete all sanctioned projects within the set timeframe and to a high standard. Notices have been issued, and punitive action has been taken where the progress of agencies was found to be slow. He stated that the corporation's priority is to provide relief to the city's residents from the problems of sewer overflow and waterlogging through improved coordination and continuous monitoring.
