The accused officer, driving his personal vehicle, collided with a VIP escort vehicle, injuring its driver.

The Incident

The accident occurred at a busy intersection near Sector 4/7 Chowk. According to the complaint filed by Sub-Inspector (SI) Ramesh, who was the checkpoint (naka) in-charge, his team was deployed near INOX Mall for security arrangements on the night of December 31. The team included Head Constable (HC) Sanjay, HC Poonam, Constable Sombir, Constable Sudhir, SPO Ajay Pal, and Home Guard Raghuveer.

While the team was thoroughly checking vehicles arriving from the New Colony red light, ASI Baljit Singh arrived at the scene in his personal white Hyundai Venue car.

SI Ramesh stated that upon arrival, ASI Baljit called SPO Ajay Pal to join him. Approximately 30 minutes later, both emerged from INOX Mall. Baljit then asked Head Constables Sanjay Kumar and Hansraj, who were on duty at the checkpoint, to get into his car, stating that they were returning after having a meal.
