The areas along the Dwarka Expressway and KMP Expressway are set to receive a major boost in greenery, with the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) preparing to supply treated water for large-scale plantations. The pipeline carrying treated water from the 55 MLD Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) in Manesar to the KMP Expressway is nearing completion, with 95 per cent of the work finished.

Officials said the pipeline is expected to be commissioned after December 31, after which plantation and greenbelt development along both expressways will be intensified. The move aims to reduce groundwater extraction by using treated industrial wastewater for irrigation.

The CETP treats 55 million litres of industrial wastewater daily, and GMDA plans to utilise this treated water extensively for green belts, expressway medians, parks, and plantation sites. Once operational, the pipeline will significantly address irrigation challenges between the KMP and Dwarka Expressway corridors.

The main pipeline is being constructed at Rs 13.4 crore, and work is currently underway at an accelerated pace to meet the deadline. SE Praveen Kumar said the project will ensure the continuous availability of treated water to support environmental enhancement initiatives along the expressways.

In addition to the main line, GMDA will also develop a sector-wise distribution network along the Dwarka Expressway for Rs 14.9 crore. This system will deliver treated water to areas designated for landscaping and greenbelt development. The contract for this work will be awarded within the month.

With these projects, authorities expect significant improvement in greenery and a reduction in reliance on groundwater across the region.
