While people are troubled by the rising pollution in the city, the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) of Rising Homes Society, Sector-92, has found a unique solution. The society's management has started using treated water from its Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) to maintain roads and greenery in an effort to control pollution.
This initiative is not only reducing dust and smog but is also setting an example for environmental conservation.
How The System Works
RWA President Praveen Malik stated that the society's STP produces approximately 250,000 litres of treated water daily.
For Greenery: This water is used for the parks and greenery within the society.
For Pollution Control: An additional 50,000 to 100,000 litres of water are sprinkled daily on the main road and the sector dividing road via a sprinkler system.
Implementation And Impact
A sprinkler system has been installed on the sector dividing road in front of the society by laying a pipeline along the streetlight poles. This system has also been implemented in the park and green belt area, making it easier to maintain the greenery.
According to Praveen Malik, this system is controlling airborne dust and helping to maintain a better Air Quality Index (AQI) in the area. He also noted that the system is proving effective both in reducing pollution during the winter and in controlling temperatures during the summer.

This initiative is also inspiring other nearby RWAs to use the treated water from their STPs not only for horticulture but also for sprinkling on roads to protect the environment.
