Haryana DGP Announces PVR Model To Help Citizens Avoid Digital Scams | Details
Haryana's DGP OP Singh introduced a new citizen-safety formula called 'PVR' at a cybersecurity event.

At a private cybersecurity event on Sunday, Haryana Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh unveiled a new, easy-to-follow citizen safety formula, PVR: Pause, Verify, Report, aimed at preventing online fraud and digital scams.

DGP Singh described the PVR model as a practical three-step tool that individuals can adopt instantly to protect themselves from cybercriminals. He noted that modern scammers “hack human emotions more than technology,” exploiting triggers such as fear, haste, trust, curiosity, greed, and carelessness, which commonly lead people into fraud traps.

During the event, the DGP detailed the steps of the new model, calling it a “new mantra” for cybercrime prevention. He also highlighted the robust cybersecurity infrastructure available in Haryana, including the 24×7 cyber helpline 1930, district-level cyber police stations, specialised forensic teams, and a refund mechanism that works even without filing an FIR, all designed to provide rapid assistance to victims.

What the PVR Model Means

* Pause: Stop immediately. Scammers rely on panic; even a two-second pause can disrupt their plan.

* Verify: Check the authenticity of numbers, links, and messages. No genuine organisation asks for information in a hurry.

* Report: If anything seems suspicious, call 1930 right away. Police can freeze fraudulent transactions within minutes.
