Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday evening, bringing much-needed relief to residents from the heat and humidity while causing waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruptions across several parts of the national capital. IMD has placed an orange alert for several areas of the city, with more showers likely over the next two hours.

The rainfall intensified during the evening hours, affecting traffic movement on several major roads and routes. Waterlogging was reported at various locations, slowing down vehicular movement and causing traffic snarls, particularly during the peak evening rush hour.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued orange and yellow alerts for different areas of Delhi-NCR and warned of further rainfall in several parts of the region. The weather department said more showers were likely over the next two hours, with some areas expected to receive light to heavy rainfall.

According to the IMD forecast, light to heavy rain will be likely over parts of Southeast Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, Northeast Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, West Delhi, Northwest Delhi and North Delhi.

The sudden spell of rain provided considerable relief to residents after warm and humid weather conditions earlier in the day. However, the heavy showers also created difficulties for commuters, with traffic movement affected on multiple routes.

Waterlogging was reported in several low-lying areas which disrupted smooth vehicular movement. This resulted in traffic jams in several stretches during peak hours, causing delays for commuters.

The weather department also warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light to moderate rain over parts of western Uttar Pradesh during the next two hours. The affected areas include Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar, both of which are part of the Delhi-NCR region.

Residents have been advised to remain cautious and keep track of official weather updates as rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to continue in parts of the region. Commuters have also been urged to exercise caution while travelling, particularly on waterlogged roads and during periods of intense rainfall.
