In a major infrastructure boost, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated significant sections of the Delhi-Mumbai and Amritsar-Jamnagar expressways in Rajasthan on Tuesday. The event was part of the celebrations marking one year of the BJP government in Rajasthan, led by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. As part of the ‘Ek Varsh-Parinaam Utkarsh’ celebrations, the Prime Minister also dedicated the 74.6 km four-lane Dangiyawas-Nagaur Road section of the Jodhpur Ring Road-I.
The newly inaugurated expressways are set to connect multiple national highways, enhancing regional connectivity and diverting heavy traffic away from urban areas. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), these roads will also ease travel between Jodhpur and Jaipur while connecting the Pachpadra refineries with major markets.
“The Prime Minister today dedicated to the nation the 27.1 km six-lane Deogarh (near Dhandhaniya) – Rajasthan/Gujarat Border Section on the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor. This will significantly reduce travel time and improve connectivity between major cities and industrial corridors,” the NHAI said in a statement.
The Amritsar-Jamnagar corridor will not only ease travel between Amritsar and Jamnagar but also strengthen connectivity to key refineries in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Punjab. “It will enhance industrial access from North India to critical ports like Kandla and Mundra in Gujarat,” the NHAI added.
Additionally, a 28 km section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was opened for public use. This eight-lane stretch will improve inter-state connectivity between Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. It connects the major bridge over the Mej River to the State Highway-37A section in Rajasthan, further boosting regional connectivity.
The NHAI noted, “It will provide swift access from Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Bundi, and Kota to major metro cities while helping reduce travel time and fuel consumption.” The new section will also bolster tourism by improving accessibility to the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve.

Furthermore, the expressways will improve market access for local farmers, paving the way for new industrial and institutional hubs, and contributing to economic development. By enhancing travel efficiency and connectivity, these projects aim to stimulate both local and regional economies.
This marks another significant step towards development. In total, the Prime Minister has inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for around 24 projects related to energy, roads, railways, and water, worth over Rs 46,300 crore, in Jaipur.
