A shocking incident was reported from Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district, where national-level wrestler Ashwini Manohar Paul allegedly jumped from the upper tower of Naldurg Fort along with her three children. Ashwini and two of her children died in the incident, while one child sustained injuries.

The incident took place around 2 pm on Thursday. According to police, Ashwini, 30, had visited Naldurg Fort with her five-and-a-half-year-old son Ajinkya and her two-and-a-half-year-old twin daughters, Veera and Kranti. The four reportedly fell from Upali Tower, the highest point of the fort, into a gorge.

Ashwini and her son Ajinkya died on the spot. Veera and Kranti were rushed to Dharashiv Civil Hospital for treatment. However, Kranti later succumbed to her injuries.

National-Level Wrestler

Ashwini was a well-known national-level wrestler and had won several medals during her sporting career. She was popularly known as ‘Maharashtra’s Tigress.’

She won a gold medal at the National Wrestling Championship in Thiruvananthapuram in 2007. She also secured gold medals at national championships held in Gurdaspur in 2008 and Chennai in 2009.

Resigned Government Job Months Ago

Ashwini had earlier worked with the Maharashtra Security Force (MSF), a government security agency in Mumbai. According to officials, she resigned from the job around four to five months ago.

Her husband, Manohar, is reportedly an autorickshaw driver. Ashwini had been living with her three children at her maternal home in Vantal village of Umarga taluka for the past three months.

Police said an accidental death case has been registered at Naldurg police station. An investigation will be conducted to determine the circumstances and cause of the incident.

“The last rites of Ashwini and her two children will be performed today. The reason behind the incident will be investigated after that,” PTI quoted an official. 

Naldurg Fort is spread across around 105 acres and has more than 100 bastions. The upper bastion from which the four fell is around 80 feet high.
