MP Hooch Tragedy: 14 people died while five others were critically injured in Banda in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district on Saturday night after suspected spurious liquor consumption. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem report and investigation.

Several people were admitted to Banda Civil Hospital of which 14 died during treatment after their health deteriorated. Some patients in critical condition have been sent to BMC Sagar for treatment. Postmortems are currently underway.

Senior administrative and police officials, including the Collector and Superintendent of Police Anurag Sujania visited the hospital and assessed the situation after the incident. Meanwhile, additional police forces have been deployed in Banda to maintain law and order.

"There have been reports of illnesses and deaths allegedly caused by the consumption of illicit liquor since this morning, and an investigation is underway at the Civil Hospital. Our team of doctors and the SDM team are also present in the surrounding areas, including the two identified villages of Naura and Ghugru, for screening,” said district magistrate Pratibha Pal, as quoted by PTI.

“Anyone experiencing symptoms or who has consumed any type of liquor in the last 24 to 48 hours should get screened by a doctor. They can also visit the Civil Hospital or any other health facility for screening. We are monitoring such cases, and an administrative team is present to take necessary action based on the findings,” she added.

According to police, six among the 14e deceased have been identified as Golu alias Chaman Lodhi (45), Digvijay Lodhi (28), Kartar Singh Lodhi (30), Ujiyar Singh Lodhi (56), Roshan Lodhi (30), and Rajendra Lodhi (32).

Harnam Rai (42), Uttam Nathu Nayak (42), Mangal Rajak (40), Param Adivasi (30), and Dhansingh Adivasi (30) were referred to BMC Sagar in critical condition. The administration and police are investigating the cause of the deaths.
