New LPG Rules: The central government has amended the Gas Control Order to strictly enforce a 'one household, one connection' rule, making it illegal for a single household to hold multiple LPG connections.

Following the directive, major oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil, HPCL, and Bharat Petroleum, have issued a joint public notice urging consumers to follow the rules and immediately surrender any excess cylinders.

New LPG Rules From June 1

- The central government has mandated that only one LPG connection will be valid per family (husband, wife, married children, and dependent parents) with a single kitchen.

- To enforce this, oil companies will cut off gas supply for households holding additional connections, and service will only be restored once the excess cylinders are surrendered.

- However, after surrendering the excess cylinder, consumers can choose to convert into a Double Bottle Connection (DBC) for a backup cylinder.

Timeline For Surrendering LPG After Switching To PNG

- Consumers will have to surrender their LPG connections within 30 days of obtaining a PNG connection.

- Alternatively, they can request a transfer voucher, which will allow the LPG connection to be reactivated in the area where PNG is not available.

Key Objectives Of The Gas Control Amendment

The central government has amended the Gas Control Order to

- Providing new LPG connections to needy families.

- To curb the misuse and black marketing of subsidised domestic cylinders.

- Promoting the adoption of cleaner alternative fuels, such as PNG.

The three oil marketing companies, including Indian Oil, HPCL, and Bharat Petroleum, have urged consumers to follow the rules and contact their LOCAL distributor to immediately surrender any excess cylinders. This process can also be completed online.
