Delhi-NCR has been witnessing frequent spells of rain during the monsoon season, which began in July and is now nearing its end. The national capital is likely to receive some of its last monsoon showers over the next three days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting isolated heavy rainfall until September 17.
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab on September 16 and 17.
“Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab during September 16-17,” the weather department said.
The ongoing spell could be among the last monsoon rain in the national capital. The southwest monsoon is expected to withdraw from Delhi after September 21, with its retreat likely to be slightly delayed this year.

The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall over Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh on September 13, East Rajasthan on September 14, and Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab on September 17.
For Monday, September 14, the weather department has forecast a “partly cloudy sky”, with very light to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places from afternoon to evening.

On Tuesday, a “generally cloudy sky” is expected to prevail, with very light to light rain likely at a few places during the morning. Another spell of very light to light rain is forecast from afternoon to evening, while isolated showers may continue from the forenoon to the afternoon, according to the IMD.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperatures in Delhi are expected to hover around 35degreesC and 26 degrees C, respectively, on Monday. On Sunday, the minimum temperature settled at 26.2 degrees C, which was 0.1 degrees above the season’s average.
The capital also witnessed rain and overcast skies on Saturday, with a brief respite on Sunday before the next spell. Several parts of Delhi received showers on Saturday.
