Republic Day 2026: With just a week to go for this year’s Republic Day celebrations, preparations are in full swing in the national capital. Security arrangements have been beefed up in the national capital, and organisers are fine-tuning the last-minute preparations. To help you prepare for your visit, here’s an overview of what to expect at this year’s Republic Day celebrations.

Republic Day 2026: What To Expect?

  • The central theme of Republic Day 2026 will be centred around Vande Mataram as the country celebrates 150 years of this iconic song. This will be displayed in the celebrations, tableaux and cultural performances on that day.

  • Antonio Costa, President of the European Council and Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, will be the chief guests of this year’s Republic Day parade 2026.  

  • For the first time, real-time simulations will be displayed to the public to show how military operations unfold on the battlefield.

  • A simulated aerial dogfight will also be displayed for the people, along with dedicated animal contingents featuring Zanskar ponies and Bactrian camelsn along with the Indian army’s K9 dog unit on the Kartavya path.

  • A dedicated contingent of robotic dogs is expected to be part of the Republic Day parade to highlight the growing importance of technology and modern warfare.

  • The flypast this year will see a combination of fighter jets (like Rafale, SU-30, MiG-29), helicopters (like Apache, LCH, ALH) and transport carriers (like  C-130, C-295).

  • The parade will feature 18 marching contingents and 13 military bands. Special contingents such as the Ladakh Scouts and the Bhairav contingent are scheduled to take part.

  • Thirty tableaux will be displayed on the Kartavya Path, 17 from the states and 13 from the union territories.

  • These displays, in line with the overall theme, will reflect Swatantrata ka Mantra and Samriddhi ka Mantra, symbolising India's journey from the freedom movement to its current global position.

  • To streamline the movement of the people, QR-code-based access and navigation systems have been put in place.
