A 56-year-old man was allegedly pedhoney-trapped and duped of Rs 17.65 lakhs in Maharashtra’s Thane area. Seven people, including a police official, have been accused in the case. None of the accused have been arrested yet.
What’s the case?
A 28-year-old woman honey-trapped the 56-year-old employee of a private company living in Kalyan and made an objectionable video of him, police said on Saturday. The woman, along with her associates, used the clip to extort Rs 17.65 lakh from the complainant for the last three months.
A case has been registered under Section 308(2) (extortion) of the Indian Penal Code against Dombivali resident Seema Jagtap, her mother Bharti Sham Thakur (55), her husband Sumit Singh and three others (including an unidentified police constable), an official said.
Separate Incident
In a separate case, a vegetable trader, Shankar Prasad Gupta, was duped of 25 lakh rupees by promising gold at a cheap rate in Ambikapur, Chhattisgarh. After taking money from the trader, he fabricated a fake story and claimed to be caught by Ranchi police and sent a photo of the lockup. Then, posing as a police officer, SP, lawyer, and company official, he continued to extort money from the victim.
Kotwali police registered an FIR against the accused, Vikas Soni, under sections 308(2) and 318(4) of the BNS and initiated an investigation.
In another incident, an interstate fake visa and overseas job racket that allegedly duped hundreds of job seekers by luring them with the promise of high-paying jobs in countries such as Russia, Turkey and Azerbaijan has been busted by the Delhi Police, an official said on Wednesday.
Three people, who were part of the syndicate that lured unsuspecting job-seekers, have been arrested. The accused have been identified as Salauddin Mansuri alias Haider Khan , a resident of Siwan in Bihar, Md Shahzad from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, and Kaushar from Kushinagar in Uttar Pradesh.
