Uttarakhand Weather: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an avalanche alert for five districts after a fresh snowfall in the upper regions in the past few days. The weather department stated that while the higher Himalayan regions witnessed heavy snowfall, the plain areas received rainfall. The authorities have stated that an alert has been issued for these districts after closely monitoring the situation. The weather department has directed the administration to take necessary steps to minimise the inconveniences.
Avalanche Alert For Five Districts
The authority stated that several areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Rudraprayag are likely to face avalanches due to the snowfall, adding that these districts have been marked under Danger Level-2. It further stated that Pithoragarh and Bageshwar have been kept under Danger Level-1, considering lower risks. The officials stated that the continuous snowfall leads to avalanches in the regions. The residents of these districts have been advised to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.
Apart from this, the residents of heavy snowfall zones have been advised to relocate temporarily to lower regions for the next few days. The district administrations have also been directed to stay on alert and ensure that the advisory reaches the locals and the tourists. The weather of hilly regions severely changed after a fresh snowfall on January 23, followed by rainfall in the plain regions.
The weather department has stated that more rainfall is likely in the next two to three days, leading to a further drop in the temperature. The residents of the plain districts are also likely to witness cold waves and fog, especially in the early hours, leading to inconveniences.
The IMD has stated that several other states, including Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, are also set to witness cold waves and fog for the next few days.
