Four Jharkhand Police inspectors who were promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) but have been awaiting posting for the past seven months are set to retire on Saturday, January 31. If posting orders are not issued by Saturday morning, the officers will retire as inspectors and will be deprived of the benefits associated with the DSP rank.
A day earlier, the Jharkhand Police Association expressed strong displeasure over the issue during a press conference, accusing the state government of ignoring the concerns of police personnel. Association president Rahul Kumar Murmu said that on June 25, 2025, 64 police inspectors were promoted to the post of DSP, with a notification stating that the promotion would be effective from the date of posting and that all service benefits would be provided accordingly. However, despite the passage of seven months, the promoted officers have not been posted.

According to the association, two of the promoted officers retired last year without timely postings. Four more officers are now due to retire on January 31, 2026. The officers facing imminent retirement are Akhileshwar Prasad Mandal, Saroj Kumar Singh, Shailesh Prasad, and Vinod Uraon.
The association said repeated representations to the government have failed to yield results, leading to growing dissatisfaction within the police force. On January 28, a delegation of the association met Vandana Dadel, Principal Secretary of the Home, Prison and Disaster Management Department, and apprised her of the officers’ predicament. The delegation also raised issues related to pending allowances and other service benefits for police personnel.
The association warned that continued neglect of police demands is lowering morale and adversely affecting policing. It said junior cadre officers are pressuring the association to launch a protest if the issue is not resolved soon.
At the press conference, association vice presidents Mahtab Alam and Rohit Rajak, general secretary Sanjeev Kumar, and joint secretary Santosh Kumar Mahato were also present.
The association recalled that last year, inspectors Ajay Kumar and Vijay Kumar, who were among the 64 promoted officers, were posted as DSPs in the Special Branch just five days before their retirement. It urged the government to ensure that similar posting orders are issued immediately for the four officers retiring on January 31 so that they are not denied promotion-related benefits.
The four officers due to retire include Inspector Shailesh Prasad of the Giridih district force, Inspector Akhileshwar Prasad Mandal of the Special Branch, Ranchi, Inspector Saroj Kumar Singh of the Special Branch, Ranchi, and Inspector Vinod Uraon, also of the Special Branch, Ranchi.
