Avengers Doomsday vs Dune 3: The MCU recently released its first official teaser, featuring Chris Evans returning as Steve Rogers aka Captain America, with a plot twist. Along with the teaser unveil, Marvel also confirmed the official release date of Doomsday. The upcoming movie is set to face one of the biggest clashes with Dune Part 3. Denis Villeneuve's Dune and the Russo Brothers' Avengers films have carved a special place in the audience's hearts. As two of the most highly anticipated releases from Marvel and Warner Bros, Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three carry immense expectations and significant high risk due to their shared release date window. Fans are wondering whether the studios will share the opening weekend at the box office or if one of the films will move its release date to avoid the possible clash. However, Dune 3 has no plan to change its original release, setting the stage for the biggest showdown on December 18, 2026.
Why Warner Bros. Isn’t Backing Down On Dune 3's Release?
Denis Villeneuve is no stranger to epic sci-fi series storytelling. His Dune franchise has already cemented its place with the success of its first two films.
On a recent episode of The Hot Mic, industry insider Jeff Sneider revealed that Warner Bros is refusing to move Dune 3 from December 18, 2026. In addition, Matt Belloni echoed similar sentiments on The Town podcast, stating that the studio isn't budging since it locked the date first during the planning process.
Changing the release date would impact Villeneuve’s long-term vision and disrupt the franchise’s production cycle. It could also interfere with marketing rollouts, IMAX plans, and international distribution strategies.
About Dune: Part Three
Since its debut in 2021, the Dune franchise has emerged as one of the most-watched and successful sci-fi adventure movie series in recent years. Both Dune and Dune: Part Two bagged Best Picture Oscar nominations. Expectations are now high for the third instalment. Denis Villeneuve will adapt Frank Herbert's second novel, Dune Messiah, which is set 12 years after the events of Dune. The story follows Paul Atreides and his family as they take control of the desert planet Arrakis. Dune: Part Three will see the return of Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides and Zendaya as Chani.
