Gorakhpur Train Disruption: Tree On OHE Wire Halts Rail Service; Full List Of Cancelled Or Diverted Trains

A fallen tree on the Gorakhpur-Deoria rail section has disrupted the OHE line, halting train operations. The Vaishali Express is stopped at Gorakhpur Junction and the Purvanchal Express is at Cantt Station. The Lucknow-Patliputra Express has been stopped in Gorakhpur. Several trains have been diverted and some have been cancelled. Railway staff are working to repair the electrical wire.

Gorakhpur Train Disruption: Tree On OHE Wire Halts Rail Service; Full List Of Cancelled Or Diverted Trains

Train services on the busy Gorakhpur-Deoria rail section came to a complete standstill on Saturday morning after a large tree fell on the Overhead Electrification (OHE) line during heavy rain and high winds. The incident, which occurred around 9:30 am, has led to the cancellation, diversion, and halting of numerous trains, causing widespread disruption for passengers.

The disruption took place between the Gauribazar and Baitalpur stations on the North Eastern Railway's Varanasi division. Amid a storm, a green tree collapsed onto the high-voltage OHE wire. It immediately burst into flames, cutting off the power supply and bringing all train movement on the down line to a halt.

Impact On Train Services

The incident has resulted in significant disruptions, with passengers facing inconvenience at major stations including Gorakhpur, Cantt, Deoria, Bhatni, Chhapra, and Varanasi.

As of the latest report, the status of affected trains is as follows:

- Cancelled: Four trains (15130, 15129, 05163, 05164) have been cancelled.

- Diverted: Five express trains, including the 18201, 15934, 15231, and 15903, have been rerouted to run via Ayodhya and Banaras. 

- Halted En Route: Four trains are currently stationary at various locations:

  • 12554 Vaishali Express at Gorakhpur Junction.
  • Purvanchal Express at Cantt station.
  • 15104 and 15103 Intercity Express trains at Bhatni Junction.

Short Terminated: Six trains have been terminated before their destination. This includes the Lucknow-Patliputra Express, which was stopped at Gorakhpur and will now return from there.

Restoration And Passenger Assistance

Railway engineers and staff were promptly dispatched to the site and are actively working to remove the fallen tree and repair the damaged OHE wire.

Train operations on the route remain suspended at the time of this report. Railway authorities are providing regular updates to passengers at the stations, where security personnel and railway staff are assisting those who are stranded.
