In a significant development for the city's real estate and urban infrastructure, the 57-kilometre-long Green Corridor, stretching from IIM Road to Kisan Path, has been officially included in the Lucknow Master Plan 2031. With this government approval, the path is now clear for the construction of residences, commercial complexes, and skyscrapers along the corridor.
End To Construction Restrictions
Previously, the Lucknow Master Plan 2031 only referenced the "proposed old embankment" along the banks of the Gomti River. This resulted in a restriction on construction within 200 metres of the embankment. Furthermore, due to the riverbank not being clearly defined in many areas, building plans for houses, shops, and other structures could not be approved.
With the new amendment, the Green Corridor has been designated as the official alignment or boundary line for the Gomti River. This clarity resolves previous hurdles, allowing the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) to pass maps for new developments, including high-rise buildings.
The Amendment Process
The state government had invited suggestions and objections regarding the amendment to the Master Plan 2031 by October 18. No objections were submitted by the deadline.
Consequently, in an order issued by P. Guruprasad, Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Planning, the amendment was formalised. Governor Anandi Ben Patel, exercising her powers under sub-section (2) of Section 13 of the Uttar Pradesh Town Planning and Development Act, 1973, issued the order permitting the change.
