The Academic and Activity Council of Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University, Meerut, held an important meeting on Sunday in which several major policy decisions aimed at strengthening the university’s academic framework and institutional preparedness were discussed and approved.
The meeting was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and Arjuna Awardee Major General (Retd.) Deep Ahlawat, while the proceedings were conducted by Registrar Sunil Kumar Jha, who also serves as the Member Secretary of the council.
During the meeting, the council deliberated on key agenda items related to academic development. These included the appointment of faculty through guest and deputation arrangements, the constitution of the Board of Studies, and the engagement of experienced academic consultants for curriculum and syllabus formulation. The council also approved the proposed structure of schools, departments and academic programmes, including degree, diploma and certificate courses.
In addition, the scope of work for academic consulting agencies was finalised, and the academic and sports calendar of the university was approved. The council also reviewed the progress of ongoing construction work on the campus and assessed academic and administrative preparations for upcoming sessions. Discussions were held on proposed posts and appointments to ensure the smooth conduct of future academic activities.
Several eminent members were present at the meeting, including Dr Gulshan Lal Khanna, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of MRIIRS, Faridabad; Dr Keshav Gurjar, former Deputy Director of Sports at Jiwaji University, Gwalior; Paralympic medallist Deepa Malik; Olympian shooter Abha Dhillon; Prof Dr Virendra, Head of Department at Meerut College; Dr Rajeev Kumar, Controller of Examinations at Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur; Prof Satyant Kumar, Dean of Major Dhyan Chand State Sports University; and Abdul Ahad, Head Coach, Sports Officer Department, Meerut.

Addressing the council, Vice-Chancellor Major General Deep Ahlawat stressed the importance of the timely and effective implementation of the decisions taken. He said the approved measures would play a crucial role in establishing a strong academic base and developing the university as a centre of excellence in sports education and research. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Registrar Sunil Kumar Jha.
