The Sector 113 police station on Saturday busted a sophisticated drug trafficking gang that supplied cannabis (ganja) through online app bookings and porter services. Acting on confidential information regarding online drug supplies in the city, a police team led by ACP Twinkle Jain apprehended three smugglers, including the gang's ringleader, from the FNG service road.

Seizure And Arrests

During the operation, the police recovered 10 kg and 100 g of illegal cannabis, which included high-demand varieties such as "OG," "Mango," and "Shillong."

DCP Yamuna Prasad identified the accused as:

Yogendra Pratap Singh (Ringleader): A resident of Rohili village, Kannauj.

Suraj (alias Rudra): A resident of Charghat village, Nalanda, Bihar.

Shivkesh: A resident of Ubrikheda village, Hardoi.

All three suspects are currently living in rented accommodations in Bahlolpur and Garhi Chaukhandi villages in Noida. The police are currently searching for other associates connected to the gang.

Modus Operandi: "The App And Porter"

Method Interrogation revealed that the gang sourced cannabis from hilly regions in Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Shillong. They would then sell the contraband online to customers in the NCR at five times the cost price.

To evade police detection, the gang operated without direct contact with buyers. Once a location was received from a customer, the drugs were delivered using porter services. The gang used fake receipts to make the parcels appear legitimate. Consequently, the delivery personnel were unaware of the contents of the packets.

Criminal History And Background

ADCP Noida Shavya Goyal provided details on the gang's background. Yogendra, who has passed the 12th standard, previously worked in a Noida factory where he began supplying cannabis to the staff. Realising the potential for significant profit, he quit his job to smuggle full-time.

Yogendra has been active in smuggling for about five years and has previously served jail time, with three cases registered against him. He recently expanded his operations by recruiting Suraj, who has passed high school and Shivkesh, an ITI qualification holder. As the ringleader, Yogendra took a 30-40 per cent share of the profits.
